Mobile Ransomware

Researchers at Blue Coat Lab have discovered a mobile ransomware delivered through exploit kit to target android devices. The ransomware is named Dogspectus by the researchers. Dogspectus does not encrypt user files but denies access to the mobile device claiming that an illegal action had been performed by the user and demanding a fine to be paid in the form of Apple iTunes gift cards.

The researchers were still able to connect the infected device to a computer and retrieve all files from the internal and additional memory. The ransomware survived a flash of the operating system with a newer build of android but did not survive a factory reset.
