Over 27,000 windows XP machines have been found to still be in use by the London Metropolitan Police. Last year the number stood at 35,000. The Met are potentially at high risk of cyber attacks.
Microsoft ended support for Windows XP in 2014 but many organizations around the world still use the OS.
An FoI request last year, according to infosecurity-magazine.com reveals that the Met is paying way over a million pounds of taxpayers money for extended support for the OS from Microsoft till April, 2017.
The Met has revealed in a statement that further plans are underway to address the rest of the XP desktops in use within the organization.
